Chinese sculptor Wang Keping moved to France in 1984. He is considered, internationally, to be one of the most important contributors to contemporary sculpture. His wood sculptures testify to the artist’s ongoing commitment to exploring the medium as well as to his relationship with sculpture, a bond that is simultaneously humble, intimate, and spiritual. By mastering traditional carving techniques, according to an approach that is timeless and transcendent. Wang Keping's works have been exhibited and/or collected worldwide by the Musée Rodin, Paris; the Brooklyn Museum (USA); the Centre Pompidou, Paris; The M+ Museum, Hong Kong; the Linden-Museum, Stuttgart; the Modern Art Museum in Chengdu (China); The Khoan and Michael Sullivan Collection at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford; the Kunstmuseum Bern; in 2007, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Copenhagen; Today Art Museum in Beijing; Musée Maillol, Paris; The China Institute, New York; Musée Cernuschi, Paris; the Asia Society, in Hong Kong. He will have an upcoming exhibition at the Musée Guimet in Paris this November.
