10 Chancery Lane Gallery is proud to present renowned sculptor Wang Keping – Birds, Harmony of the Forest, in association with Le French May 2017. This debut solo exhibition of new works features bird sculptures expressing a personal passion of the artist’s, that he has been working on for several years. In this new series Wang explains, “the form is simple, but the emotion is rich.” The flowing, carved wooden shapes alternate between abstraction and figuration, animal and human, primitive and contemporary. Born in China in 1949, Wang Keping emigrated to France in 1984. He is one of the founders of the celebrated Stars Group (Xing Xing), the first free expression contemporary art movement of the post-Mao era. He is decorated with the French “Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” and his work is collected by the Centre Georges Pompidou, The M+ Sigg Collection, the Fukuoka Museum among others.
