Ma Desheng (b. 1952 Beijing) is one of the most captivating artists from China. This series of woodblock prints were created in China from 1978-1982 when he was a member of the Stars Group and Movement (Xing Xing). They were exhibited in the first and second "Stars Exhibitions" in 1979 and 1980, considered to be a pivotal exhibition as China was opening up after the years of the cultural revolution in the post-Mao era. These important and moving images are full of the expressions of a young man's heart and feelings of hope. He is collected by the M+ Museum of Visual Culture/Uli Sigg Collection, the Centre Pompidou, and the British Museum, among others.
