Matthew So Chun Him (b. 2000) is a painter who focuses on relationships and ambiguous states. Knowing that a person’s emotional and mental state may not necessarily be expressed in words, Matthew uses his experiences and aesthetic language to illustrate diverse and complex emotions. Feeling that every colour has its own personality, he navigates them as interacting individuals through abstract shapes as a universal language. Believing that there are human instincts and feelings triggered by colour and form, he invents his language to speak the unspeakable and indescribable. Raising the animal nature and spirituality found in every human being, he aims to provoke conversations between his artworks and the viewer’s soul.
