"Photos are only a vehicle, a form. The key is the hidden meaning behind the photo, as every viewer’s interpretation is different. But there must be a vehicle for people to view. This is a form of communication, a conduit." - Cang Xin

Cang Xin (b. 1967, Batou, Inner Mongolia, China. Lives and works in Beijing, China) is one of China’s most celebrated artists. He works within performance art, photography, sculpture, installation and drawing. Cang Xin holds the profound Shamanic belief that all things have spirit, and approaches his work as a means to promote harmonious communication with nature, man and objects. His works have included bathing with lizards, adorning the clothing of strangers, and prostrating himself on icy glaciers: each act representing a ritual of becoming the other. Cang’s Communication series (1996-2006) involves his engagement with the world by means of his tongue. His works focus on mysticism, transcending spirituality and philosophy.
