Ko Siu Lan's signage are the unspoken but clear dictum of certain types of current thinking: "Corruption In Progress," "Please Censor Yourself," "Caution Democracy," and "No Thinking.."
Ko Siu Lan's works deal with subterfuge, double entendre, elliptical meanings, language and translation, and political discourse by employing the camouflage of everyday objects. Her works examine mundane objects such as signage, banners and flags, lightings, etc. to understand how subliminal message can be configured and disrupted when new signifiers are inserted. She works in installation, text-based works and performance.
