Francis Yu Wai-Luen's Paintings
HONG KONG 9/1/02--10 Chancery Lane Gallery is proud to present a very talented Hong Kong artist from January 31, 2002 to February 23, 2002.
Francis Yu's painting deals with the complexity of text and image, constructing on canvas a dialectical relationship of the two prime components in human communication.
Combined with various sources of images, and excerpted from different texts including novels, poems, song and slang words, the paintings confront viewers with a conceptual play of narration and non-narration. However, they have never been neglected in the process by their formation the properties of paint.
Francis Yu is a graduate of the Royal College of Art in London and has shown his works throughout the world including Japan, Taiwan, Canada, UK, USA, and Hong Kong. He has been received several awards including a fellowship to the Cité des Arts sponsored by the Musee Centre Georges Pompidou. We are very happy to bring this exciting artist’s newest work to the forefront of the Hong Kong art scene.
The press is invited to an opening reception from 6 to 9pm on Thursday, January 31, 2002.
10 Chancery Lane Gallery, SoHo, is located off Old Bailey Street, behind Central Police Station, opening hours are M-F 10-7, Saturdays 12-6. TEL: 2810-0065
